There are so many different kinds of video games in this world. The entire gaming industry has come forward quite a bit in the past decade, because of the many advancements in technology. In this guide, I am going to be talking all about how diverse this field is. There are many gaming categories that are available. You can choose them depending on what your test is. It can be quite confusing at times but, if you know what you like, it can be very easy to find your favourite games.

Action games would make the top of the list as these are one of the most preferred types of games out there and they are available in multiple platforms starting from arcade games, PC games, console games up until mobile phones. In this type, the player is in control of and at the centre of the action. Here are some of the varieties of action games.

Platformer: the name actually comes from the fact that the game characters interact with platforms; typically consisting of very few motions like running, jumping or falling.

The shooter is one of the most hyped categories out there. Here the player gets to engage with weapons in action, with the goal being to take out enemies or opposing players.These games usually comprise of two modes such as first-person shooters (FPS) or third-person perspective (TPP).

Fighting games like Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Combat are some of the most common examples among fighting games. These are typically hand to hand fighting combat situations, where each character contains a unique set of skills.

Furthermore, I would like to present adventure games. It is categorised by the style of gameplay, not the story or content. In adventure games, the key is to solve puzzles with clues to progress in the story, and the players usually interact with their environment and other characters to solve puzzles.

Role-playing games are considered the second most popular among the gaming genre. The role-playing games, also known as RPGs, mostly feature mediaeval or fantasy settings. The gamers are given choices in the genre, which would affect the final outcome of the game. Henceforth many RPGs have alternate endings.

Simulation games speak for themselves. They have one thing in common, they are all designed to emulate real or a fictional reality, to simulate a real situation or activity.

Next in line is strategy games.

Such games require players to use carefully developed strategies and tactics to overcome challenges. These days such games have moved from turn basis system to real-time gameplay in responses to play your feedback.

Sports games are designed to simulate sports like golf, football, basketball, baseball and soccer, etc. They may also include Olympic games such as Skiing and badminton. They even have some amazing pub sports like throwing darts and pool.

Puzzle games or logic games, are the classic ones where the player is required to solve problems in order to complete the task.
